Reading time: 4 minuti
Once again the Christmas season is upon us! A magical time of year in which pretty coloured lights illuminate trees, people search for the perfect gift, and mothers begin to think about the menu for the holidays. Christmas is also a time for family though, of warmth, of loving each other and having everyone together at the same table.
At a time like this where appearance is very important, we have the opportunity to turn off our smartphones and devote time to real human relationships. I’m talking about the kind of relationships that warm our hearts and make us feel at home regardless of a “like”. It might seem trivial but the best gift we can give to someone is our time. In an already hectic world where fashions change, followers can be lost or bought, what could be more precious than spending time with the people we love?!
We must not forget that our best gift will always be the time we dedicate to our family and friends. Very often we only realise this when it is too late and the opportunity to show the people around us what they mean to us has passed. So for these holidays I wish you, first of all, to slow down and find time for yourselves, perhaps doing something you have always wanted to, and then to share it with your loved ones.
I recently published an article in which I talked about Christmas gifts. I would like to explain my point of view a little further and my way of being, so that you can get to know me a bit better.
For me, buying a gift for someone important goes beyond economic value. Personally, I like to focus on quality as my desire is to make the receiver feel special and a gift is a way of being able to bring joy and happiness to another person. There are lots of ways to show our love and sharing is certainly the most important one. Taking the time to look for the right gift, wrapping it with love, writing a card, anticipating the moment the gift is unwrapped to see the astonished reaction of the recipient is something which makes us feel good.
Giving is always an act of love. It is a way to share our affection and an opportunity to express positivity and warmth where gratification is mutual. Choosing a gift means picking something that would please the person who receives it, without expecting anything in return. So in this atmosphere of gifts, I wish you to share your time and love, and to make the most of this occasion by showing those you love just how much you do.
I would now like to give to you the gift of a poem by Alfredo Cuervo Barrero, and dedicate it to those who are reading my thoughts. These words are not the classic Christmas poem but a philosophical reflection to accompany our lives and relive the Nativity every day as a moment of inner rebirth and personal growth. I hope these verses can help you start 2020 with a new spirit.
With all my heart, I wish you all a very peaceful and happy Christmas!
IT IS FORBIDDEN
It is forbidden to cry without learning,
to wake up in the morning without knowing what to do
to be afraid of your memories.
It is forbidden not to smile at problems,
not to fight for what you believe,
to give up because of fear,
not to transform your dreams into reality.
It is forbidden not to show your love,
to make others pay for your bad moods.
It is forbidden to abandon your friends,
to not attempt to understand those around you
to call them only when you need them.
It is forbidden not to be yourself in front of people,
to pretend in front of people you don’t care about,
to only be kind to those who remember you,
to forget all those who love you.
It is forbidden not to do things for yourself,
to be afraid of life and its compromises,
not to live every day as if it were your last.
It is forbidden to miss someone without rejoicing,
to forget their eyes and their laughter
just because your paths no longer cross,
to forget the past, paying it with your present.
It is forbidden not to try to understand people,
to think that their lives are worth more than yours,
not to believe that everyone holds their own path
in their own hands.
It is forbidden not to create your own story,
to not have even a moment for people who need you,
to not understand that what life gives you,
it can also take away from you.
It is forbidden not to seek your happiness,
to not live your life with a positive attitude,
to not think we can be better,
to not feel that, without you,
this world would not be the same.
