We all know someone who swears “My suitcase is my life!” The friend who is always searching for flights, or who collects photos from every corner of the earth and always has their next adventure in mind. Whether it be for work or passion they are always ready to get on the next train, bus, ship, or plane… even a hot air balloon! And why not?! However, when it comes to buying gifts for our globetrotting friend it can be difficult.
Here is a series of gifts that are suitable for our dedicated traveller:
1) Travel journal
To leave an indelible trace of past adventures and to plan new ones, the Traveller’s Journal proposed by Moleskine is perfect for our friend to fill with travel reports, photos and tickets of the tourist attractions visited, including pages for ideas and itineraries still to experience. The notebook consists of 400 pages with various sections including “short trips” and “long trips”, pre and post travel, a wish list of destinations, an 8 year time line where they can plan their adventures, themed stickers, an expandable inside pocket and a box that encloses the journal in order to protect it.

2) Luggage weighing scale with power bank and torch
Probably one of the most useful items a traveller could ever own! Small, compact (dimensions: 5.5×15.5×3.5 cm; weight: 222 gr), and with three functions in one. It can be attached to the handle of the suitcase to determine the weight, recharge a mobile phone or MP3 player, or act as a torch. The power bank is 5000 mAh and therefore can provide about two complete charges for most smartphones. The luggage weighing scale also comes with a comfortable strap so you can hang it where you want. Item includes a 5-year warranty. Little yet lifesaving gifts!

3) The traveller’s bible
Undecided on where to go? The Lonely Planet travel guide Mondo is made especially for this. A super photographic book which presents, in alphabetical order, all the countries of the world through a detailed map, giving information about places and attractions, and with 600 stunning images. Ideal for choosing the right destination!

4) Passport holder
A great classic, always having its charm and usefulness. Alviero Martini, a famous Italian accessory company that stands out for the workmanship of leather, has produced one which is treated and coloured in such a way as to recall the ancient scrolls. The Geo Classic travel passport holder by Alviero Martini is a truly elegant and refined object with the fabric print of the old geographical map, typical of the brand, with a warm coloured leather trim around the edges. A perfect gift for someone who wants to combine modern with traditional.

5) The magic pillow
Would you like to give your friend the comfort of their home while they are travelling? With Ostrichpillow” it is possible! This company is specialised in the production of pillows with an extremely ergonomic and innovative design. The GO version in particular has been designed specifically for those who spends hours and hours sitting on uncomfortable seats and often face nights on public transports. The constituent material of this product takes shape according to how you lean on it (the so-called “memory foam”), the cover is breathable, removable and washable, and the pillow can be rolled up and put away, reducing its size by half.
6) The Scratch Map
Here is a special way to let your friend keep track of their past travels. With gifts like these they can do it both in a fun manner as well as at the same time creating a nice poster to furnish their room! The “Scratch Map” is by now a rather well-known object, created in 2009 in London by Luckies. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that you can scratch the visited countries on the map with a coin, each one revealing an underlying colour. There are various versions to be chosen from depending also on the preferences of the recipient, for example the deluxe model, the one with the names of culinary specialties, the one with animals, the one with the typical experiences to do in each country, or the one with the translation of the word “Hello”…

7) The suitcase finder
If your friend is used to flying they probably already know that one of the worst nightmares is that of the missing suitcase which was accidentally embarked on another flight and which has now been found after months in a completely different country!! To avoid this Delsey has created a small (size: 7.5 x 11 x 1.5 cm; weight: 0.08kg) device to put into your suitcase, allowing you to geolocalize your luggage around the world. It works through an application (connected to the tracker) that you download to your smartphone which then enables you to track your case and know at all times where it is, simply by looking at your phone screen. Gifts like these can be indispensible!

Great post Alessia.
A few other things that are useful for the intrepid traveller:
1) A money belt to hide valuables like credit cards, cash and your passport from pickpockets
2) A battery charger to charge your mobile phone when you are away from your hotel
3) A lanyard to attach your mobile phone to so it is not snatched by thieves – you can also hide it under your shirt/jacket
