Boho-chic is a style where different elements of bohéme and hippy culture meet and are reinterpreted in an elegant way. The style was launched in 2000 by the model Kate Moss and has since become a real fashion trend also in the world of wedding dresses.
The wedding dresses characterised by such style have a very romantic taste and resemble vintage clothes from the ’30s. The fabric is lightweight and impalpable, with lace embroidery letting the skin glimpse, for a nude effect. The shape of the dress is always clean and never too sumptuous, the best models are the empire waist ones or straight like a petticoat, because they caress the feminine figure with soft and transparent materials, like tulle, chiffon or lace.
This style strongly recalls nature and outdoor life so it is ideal for all weddings taking place in a natural setting like a country villa or a beach. The colours of the boho-chic wedding are earth tones: from brown to beige, matched with orange or yellow, or with bright colours like acid green, light-blue or lavender. As a general rule, the wedding dress must be coordinated with the place where the wedding is to be celebrated. In this regard, a great idea would be readapting a family wedding dress. Why not choose to wear your grandmother’s wedding dress? Revamped and fixed up, it would certainly give a priceless value to the wedding.
THE SHOES which best fit with these wedding dresses are low shoes like ballet flats tied to the ankle, or décolleté models with a medium heel and vintage style T-bar. Nowadays, a very original trend is for brides to wear lace trainers but I will go into more depth about this topic at a later date, where I
will also introduce you to some of the most beautiful and sophisticated shoe models among the collections of this season.
THE MAKE-UP suitable for this type of style is a wedding makeup with natural shades like matt vanilla or peach coloured eyeshadows and nude effect lips. Also the complexion will be fair with a touch of colour on the cheekbones, for a bonne mine effect, with an angelic and romantic skin tone.
THE HAIRSTYLE of the boho-chic bride wants loose hair, but it is perfect also a soft up-do with some strands framing the face; green light to fresh flowers in the hair and wreaths on the forehead. Some accessories I would advise you to use are crochet bands, so that you can use them on loose hair with soft waves. If you love the half up-do, fix it with a bouquet flower to obtain a very chic bucolic effect.
Now I will show you a selection of seven wedding dresses chosen by me among the various proposals of 2019, in the name of refinement and good taste, for an ethereal and very romantic bride.
Azzurra Model – Alessandra Rinaudo
The Azzurra model is a graceful dress with a fluid line, made with different fabric: cotton lace, glitter organza, silk organza and plumetis tulle. The horizontal flounces and the V-neckline gives a touch of romantic sensuality to the whole figure; I suggest you wear it with some medium- heeled vintage shoes, for a bohémien taste.
Edet Model – Pronovias
Innocence and seduction mingle in this boho dress. A model with medium waist flared skirt, made by lace and petits pois tulle and finished with guipure applications. The bodice, with a crewneck neckline, also in guipure and petits pois, plays with transparencies and floreal motifs to give the dress a romantic and sensual touch. The three-quarter sleeves, perfected with a delicate flounce, complete the ideal look for a bride in perfect boho style.
6793S Model – Blumarine
This model, with a soft and slipped line, is made with slight tulle and lace. The neckline is sweetheart and the tulle wrap the shapes, climbing on the shoulders, almost creating a V-neckline. This wedding model is ideal for who is looking for a clean and romantic dress, in perfect boho-chic style. The realisation is rigolously made in Italy.
Aurora 2018 59 Model – Elisabetta Delogu
The elegance and the fluidity are the protagonists of this romantic wedding dress with a 1920’s style pleated skirt. This model is characterised by a spectacular short-sleeved bodice and floreal embroideries of great value. The movement and the fall of the pleated textile lengthen and thin the silhouette. The result is very elegant and polished.

BR19 26 Model – Costarellos
Slipped, light and transparent: it is the perfect wedding dress for a romantic outdoor wedding. The bodice is underlined by a band edge, which recalls the fabric of the skirt and evokes the ancient Greek philosophy. An impalpable flared skirt opens up from the tight bodice, with a deep pointed neckline.
Cuarzo Model – Novia D’art
A two-piece wedding dress which matches the elegance of lace with the modernity of crop top, united by a playful touch and determined by the skirt in plumetis tulle. The versatility of the dress lets you change the top between the marriage ceremony and the wedding reception. The model is ideal for a young and lively bride with a hippie-boho look.
Beatrix Dress Model – Temperley London
The Beatrix wedding dress is a bohémien model with a high neckline and long sleeves, decorated with embroidery inspired by Victorian lace patterns. Straight embroideries, framed by a delicate lace edge, go down the skirt, which is straight-lined but flared at the bottom. These wedding dresses have a tulle bodice embellished with crystal stones, floreal motifs and embroidered hearts.
